Sensibly, Stone is working with the back-up team responsible for The Soul Sessions ΓÇô one of the more surprising debuts of recent years ΓÇô but the emphasis here is on original material, with many co-writing credits for the singer herself. The retro vibe of The Soul Sessions is revisited on the likes of Spoiled and Security, but Stone introduces variety with the ska feel of Less Is More and the stripped-down Understand, bringing her sound up to date on the upbeat You Had Me (could be Anastacia) and the smoother In Denial. StoneΓÇÖs biggest problem remains her age, and the nagging feeling that you have to have lived a bit more to really have soul. This certainly hasnΓÇÖt worried the two million people who bought her debut, but itΓÇÖs interesting that the song on which she sings ΓÇ£I know I may be young and know nothing of this worldΓÇ¥ (Killing Time, co-written with PortisheadΓÇÖs Beth Gibbons) is easily the best thing on the album.
